Dizzy Pony: Practical tips with authentic, frank candor: I’ve had Dr. Cat’s book on my bookshelf for a while. I heard it was the 15 year anniversary since the book was first published, and I thought it was a great opportunity to share my thoughts on the book. [Review written in 2014]
It’s a book about accepting and loving yourself. My favorite parts include the practical tips and methods on improving one’s well-being. Here are some of my favorite methods Dr. Cat include the coin flip method, 5 minute method and the pretend method. With these simple tips, I found it quick and easy to get desired outcomes without delving into complicated theory.
Interspersed within the book, we get a frank glimpse into her own life. Just like Oprah, Dr. Cat shares that she’s like one of us — filled with the same challenges, struggles and anxieties that we all share. With her thoughtful introspection and detailed research, she’s a strong leader, coach and counselor that we can all count on.
Stephanie Austin: Truth-filled, Tool-rich, and Transformative: This book is an amazing compilation of wisdom and helpful tools for thriving in today’s challenging times. Written with great clarity and compassion, Dr. Cat’s Helping Handbook is filled with powerful insights and exercises for transforming addictions, learning to love ourself, and creating respectful relationships. While definitely worth reading cover to cover, you can also open it like an oracle and on any page find something that will upshift how you see yourself and the world.
“Dr. Cat’s…basic message is be compassionate with yourself and to take good care of yourself. She shows us how to do exactly that.”
Jean Bonnen: Wisdom, compassion, and inspiration: I love this book! It is rich with practical ideas. Dr. Cat’s chapters are short and to the point. Her basic message is be compassionate with yourself and to take good care of yourself. She shows us how to do exactly that. A wide variety of topics make this handbook a treasure. Included are an emergency plan for anger overload, the gratitude cleanup list, relating with respect, and many others. I especially like her collection of the brilliant quotes she has scattered throughout the book. Recommended for learning to take gentle care of a human being, you!
