It’s Friday again – it’s tea time and time to take time out for our tea-way ritual. This week the focus is on Yerba Mate, a herbal tea that de-stresses us due to its Spiritual qualities and heritage: amazing for your tea-time contemplation on the awesome-ness of nature.
Yerba Mate: This South American tea is used to celebrate community and foster connections. Yerba Mate contains high amounts of caffeine, making it a natural alternative to coffee. It is popular among the South American indigenous societies of Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. The dried leaves are steeped in hot water and traditionally consumed in a gourd using a metal straw.
Yerba Mate has a strong flavor profile, which does make it an acquired taste: with hints of bitterness that are enveloped by a rich, earthy flavor. Depending on the production, Yerba Mate can taste slightly sweet to overwhelmingly bitter.
